It’s almost hanami time! Yipskip!

I love hanami, the glorious time of year when people lay blankets and tarps in every park and available green space, spread their picnics, and enjoy the scenery. This year, I was inspired to make a new sashiko kit to celebrate.

Meet the Spring Hanami Sashiko Kit. Set yourself up with a classy picnic, or perhaps bring some hanami indoors.

And, I want to share the hanami love! One lucky reader will receive a Spring Hanami Sashiko Kit, and perhaps some other sakura styled treats from Tokyo. The Spring Hanami Sashiko Kit is a limited edition kit for the spring season and will be available in my Etsy shop beginning next week. Though, if you’re really excited about it — like I know you are! — you can pre-order by sending me a message at sakepuppets@gmail.com. I can accept payments via PayPal, and orders will ship next week.

The 2012 Spring Hanami Sashiko Kit, $35

This design was inspired by the fluttering of petals as they fall from sakura trees on a breezy day. I love to stand underneath the trees and watch them swirl around me. The design is stitched using high quality, 100% cotton sashiko thread in pinks and white onto a gradated blue cotton fabric. It may look like just the lighting in the photos, but the fabric actually changes from dark blue to light. Sometimes this shading reminds me of the sky, and sometimes a stream. I’ll let you decide.

This kit includes everything you need to make one 16″ by 18″ (40 cm by 46 cm) table mat, including front and back fabric, pattern, materials for transferring the pattern to the fabric, needle, thread, and illustrated instructions. All materials included in the kit are of the highest quality and have been made in Japan. You will need to supply your own scissors, pins, and needle and thread. A sewing machine isn’t required, but it might be nice.

I live in Seattle, any my favorite thing about spring is that everything gets a little greener, and the air smells sweet. It certainly doesn’t get warm yet, but it sure is pretty!

I’m enjoying the first signs of spring too. Flower buds are forming on the trees here and everything is turning green. We’ve had a few warm days and I’m starting to do some gardening and get out for walks. I love this time of year. Your sashimi kit is beautiful – sashimi is on my list of things I want to try this year.

The thing I enjoy most about spring is sitting in the sunshine with a nice cup of tea and listening to the birds sing.

My favorite thing about spring is the way the change in weather lifts my mood: we had our first warm day here in a while, and it really turned me around! 🙂

My favorite thing about spring in Minnesota is that as soon as the weather gets over 50, every girl is in a skirt or dress and every guy is in shorts. Even if there’s still snow on the ground! We’re so excited, we just can’t help it!

My favorite thing about spring is seeing the first flowers, buds on the trees, and days getting longer. I can’t wait to see the cherry blossoms this year, it’s my first spring in Japan!

My favorite thing in spring is seeing the first buds on the trees and the bulbs sneaking through the dead leaves to show their fun colors, just like the fun colored thread in your new kit. Love it!

This kit is so beautiful. The thread color makes is elegant and so spring-like! What I like about spring is to get rid of all the heavy and bulky winter clothes, step out of my house wearing a light dress, breath in the smell of fresh air and feel the warmth of the sun on my shoulders.

My favorite thing about spring is to be able to go outside and hang out with friends, to be able to ride my bike places, to be able to have ice cream without being cold, to be able to see how nature is blooming, to see the sun longer…
